A record summer for Spain in 2016

Spain has always been a favorite holiday destination with the Brits. The last years however, there was a significant rise in the popularity of Spain.

The public revolts and terrorist attacks in Tunis and Egypt did drop the number of holidaymakers going to North Africa, which of course benefited Spain. This year, the problems in Turkey add up to the dislike of tourist destinations in muslim countries. Refugees, terrorist attacks and a tyrannical premier makes the holidaymakers look for other destinations, most of them towards Spain.

Good news for Spain, bad news for your wallet. While booking my vacation a few days ago, I noticed flights were more expensive then past years and hotels seem to give less discounts and promotions. A vacation to Spain will probably be a little more expensive then last year(s). Yet, Spain continues to be a budget friendly holiday in comparison with other popular holiday destinations...

People who wait out, hoping for a cheap last minute, could come out empty handed this year. The most popular hotels in Benidorm are fully booked for the peak season and some hotels even have no vacancies left for the autumn period (the period I will be in Benidorm)... Of course there will always be a free room somewhere, but anyone wanting a specific hotel, would do good to start booking...

Myself, I have booked for the end of October until mid November. Touroperators had slightly more expensive package deals then last year, so I booked everything on my own, thus reducing the price and allowing me to take a week Alicante extra!
It is still a long wait before I get to go on holiday, but looking forward to the holiday is already a piece of the fun!
